Visit to Donna’s Dream House
I have been looking forward to today a lot!! I was invited down to Donna’s Dream House in Blackpool today to meet the Chairman of Trustee’s, Len Curtis and hand over a cheque.
I am very passionate about the work that Donna’s Dream House carry out, providing holidays and breaks for families with children suffering from life-threatening or terminal illnesses. The staff were fantastic from the outset, it was obvious how passionate they were about their roles and they were thrilled to show me around. I was accompanied by Jane Mather, a learning mentor from my Primary School and a representative from the children’s school council.
I was amazed at the facilities, including a newly built cinema room and hot tub after a very kind donation by Channel Four’s, ‘The Secret Millionaire’. It was also very interesting to hear more about the work the charity does and how I can help over my year as Miss Fylde Coast. It was particularly interesting to know that the charity is always open to non-perishable food donations such as tins of beans…I can see a tin-drive event looming!!
Before I departed we handed over a cheque, raised by the teachers and I at my school by ‘running’ the Blackpool 10K in May. We were also kindly given a plaque in recognition of our donation. I am very excited to be working with Donna’s Dream House and eager to start raising funds and awareness for them!!
